I've been fascinated with Carmen Miranda since I was a young child. I knew little of her life until I began researching for this painting. Nick-named the "Brazilian Bombshell", she was only 5' tall, but wore platform shoes and towering headdresses. Many referred to her as the "lady in the tutti-frutti hat". Satirized and often emulated in cartoons, Carmen Miranda's influence as a performer can still be felt today. I've enjoyed getting to know her a little better.
